S.A.Mojavari

Saied Mojavari (1968 in Lahijan, Iran geboren) lebt und arbeitet seit 1996 in Köln und seit 2008 in Berlin.

Saied Mojavari studied painting and film in Tehran. Moving to in Germany in 1996, he developed monochromatic paintings in warm tones with fine drawn details, that consists of fragmentary lines and translucent forms of light. The artist uses traditional techniques of oriental miniatures and translate them into a modern, abstract and gestural pictorial language without ostensibly telling a narrative story. Rather, the history that the artist often deals with is transformed and inscribed in symbolic imagery which remains as semiotic signs. Since 2009, a new series of monochrome collages have been created in Berlin, which are consisting of worn and cut-up pieces of clothing that are dragged across the canvas. These draped folds of fabric scraps and different types of material give the collages lines, rhythm, order, boundaries and surfaces and are well composed. They are overpainted with layerings of pigments and acrylic colors - sometimes shimmering metallic like shiny bronze sculptures. The special textures of the subsurface result in random structures that determine the effect of layering. The superimposed layers of color create a wide range and variation of single colors flickering in the monochrome and express a deep atmospheric mood.
